Guidance Session on National Natural Science Foundation Youth Project Applications

To effectively enhance the quality and competitiveness of National Natural Science Foundation (NSFC) project applications by young faculty members in our college, the Discipline Construction Office and the Scientific Research Office jointly organized a review and guidance session for young faculty’s NSFC project proposals on December 8. College Dean Zheng Xiaoqun attended the meeting, which was chaired by Vice Dean Huang Haishan. Several experts, including Lu Jiahai, Gu Haihua, Li Wei, and Xue Chang, were present to provide precise comments and guidance.



The meeting focused on the current year’s NSFC Youth Project applications, aiming to help young faculty clarify their ideas, refine scientific questions, and optimize research plans through expert “diagnosis and consultation.” During the session, the participating young faculty members presented their proposals, covering key sections such as project justification, research content, technical approaches, innovations, and feasibility analysis. Drawing on their extensive research experience and insights from NSFC review, the experts provided detailed analysis and feedback on each proposal from multiple perspectives, including disciplinary frontier trends, innovation, logical rigor, and feasibility of the research plan. While fully acknowledging the strengths and preliminary work reflected in the proposals, the experts also pinpointed shortcomings and areas for improvement, offering targeted revision suggestions. The guidance process emphasized practical results, with lively discussions shifting the focus from “general comments” to “precise empowerment.”



Zheng Xiaoqun emphasized that NSFC projects serve as an important indicator of the college’s basic research level and the innovative capacity of young talent. The college consistently regards them as a key means to promote disciplinary development and support the growth of young faculty. He encouraged young faculty to attach great importance to this opportunity, fully absorb the experts’ advice, and refine their proposals with meticulous care. He also urged the Discipline Construction Office and the Scientific Research Office to continue providing follow-up support and services, forming a full-chain support system of “application–guidance–refinement” to jointly advance new breakthroughs in the college’s NSFC project approvals.

This meeting fully demonstrated the college’s high regard and strong support for the development of young faculty. It fostered an academic atmosphere dedicated to research and continuous improvement, provided clear direction for young researchers in refining scientific questions, and laid a solid foundation for enhancing the quality of research project applications in the college.
